Baby Charlotte Enters the Chat | Maryland Newborn Session
about the session
Meg and Patrick were the first family session I ever did in Maryland. Their daughter, Ella, wasn’t even 1 year old yet, and I was actually doing the shoot on behalf of another photographer who had moved before she could do their photoshoot. They were amazing! They were patient, kind, and incredibly sweet with their little daughter. At the time I was nervous about what my photography business would look like in a completely new area, but they gave me the hope I needed to start building my clientele here. Not only that, but they’ve introduced me to several of their friends, which has meant that session after session has been filled with people I’ve loved to work with. I love finding new clients via referrals from my current clients.
This session was all about welcoming a new baby sister, Charlotte, and documenting this precious time in the family’s lives. Sweet Ella is now a big sister, and it was so fun to see her in that role. We decided to use the girls’ bedroom for Charlotte’s newborn session because it was the room that had the best lighting in their Gaithersburg, MD, townhome. I love getting to photograph kids in their own spaces, especially one as cute as this nursery. If you are hesitant about doing sessions at home because you feel like you don’t have a huge, Instagram-worthy house, let me stop you right there. My favorite part of in-home sessions is incorporating a space that is special and memorable to YOU and your family. The size of the home is irrelevant. I can work in tight spaces because I understand lighting and posing. We can make magic happen in the coziest of places.
Baby Charlotte is an absolute doll, and I loved getting to work with her and her kind family again.

I want it to be known what an honor it is for me to do newborn sessions in families' homes. That time of bringing a new family member home is sacred, vulnerable, exhausting, thrilling, and everything in between. To be welcomed into that space to not only show love for this new life but to be trusted to document it in a way that will help moms recall those feelings for years to come? Seriously, so humbling. I’ll never get over how special it is to get to do this.
